ٹہنی پہ کسی شجر کی تنہا
Tehni pe kisi shajar ki tanha
Alone on the branch of a tree
بلبل تھا کوئی اداس بیٹھا
Bulbul tha koi udaas baitha
a nightingale sat, sad.
کہتا تھا کہ رات سر پہ آئی
Kehta tha ke raat sar pe aayi
It said: night has come upon me,
اڑنے چگنے میں دن گزارا
Uṛne chugne mein din guzaara
I spent the day flying and pecking for food.
پہنچوں کس طرح آشیاں تک
Pahunchoon kis tarah aashiyaan tak
How will I reach my nest?
ہر چیز پہ چھا گیا اندھیرا
Har cheez pe chha gaya andhera
Darkness has covered everything.
سن کر بلبل کی آہ و زاری
Sun kar bulbul ki aah o zaari
Hearing the nightingale's cries,
جگنو کوئی پاس ہی سے بولا
Jugnu koi paas hi se bola
a firefly nearby spoke up:
حاضر ہوں مدد کو جان و دل سے
Haazir hoon madad ko jaan o dil se
I am here to help with all my heart,
کیڑا ہوں اگرچہ میں ذرا سا
Keeṛa hoon agarche main zara sa
though I am only a tiny insect.
کیا غم ہے جو رات ہے اندھیری
Kya gham hai jo raat hai andheri
Why worry that the night is dark?
میں راہ میں روشنی کروں گا
Main raah mein roshni karoon ga
I will light up the way.
اللہ نے دی ہے مجھ کو مشعل
Allah ne di hai mujh ko mashal
God has given me a torch;
چمکا کے مجھے دیا بنایا
Chamka ke mujhe diya banaaya
He made me shine like a lamp.
ہیں لوگ وہی جہاں میں اچھے
Hain log wohi jahaan mein achhe
The good people in the world
آتے ہیں جو کام دوسروں کے
Aate hain jo kaam doosron ke
are the ones who help others.
