The honest woodcutter

Aik ghareeb lakaṛhaara darya ke kinaare darakht kaat raha tha ke us ki kulhaaṛi paani mein gir gayi.

A poor woodcutter was cutting a tree by the river when his axe fell into the water.

Woh rone laga. Paani mein se aik pari nikli aur sone ki kulhaaṛi dikha kar poochha: Kya yeh tumhaari hai?

He began to cry. A fairy came out of the water, showed him a golden axe and asked: Is this yours?

The woodcutter said: No, it is not mine. Then the fairy brought a silver axe, and again he said no.

Aakhir pari lohe ki kulhaaṛi laayi to lakaṛhaara khush ho kar bola: Haan, yeh meri hai!

At last the fairy brought an iron axe, and the woodcutter said happily: Yes, this one is mine!

Pari us ki imaandaari se bohat khush hui aur use teenon kulhaaṛiyaan de dein.

The fairy was very pleased with his honesty and gave him all three axes.
